1. How do I improve SpamWatch results?

Spammers continually try to get around any spam-block, so training is essential. With training, Eudora's SpamWatch grows with you to stop spammers from trying to "get around" the spam-blocking code.

To train Spamwatch, use the Junk and Not Junk commands.

Highlight the message, then select Junk from the Message pull-down menu. The message will be transferred into the Junk mailbox.

Similarly, if you have a message in your Junk mailbox that is not Junk, highlight the message, then use the Not Junk command. The message will be transferred out of the Junk mailbox.

Regular training will improve your SpamWatch accuracy and performance.

2. How do I put SpamWatch on my toolbar?

Make training SpamWatch even more convenient by adding the "Junk" and "Not Junk" icons to your toolbar for on the fly convenience.

These buttons are not installed by default. This requires your action.

Customize your toolbar

3. How do I turn SpamWatch on or off?

In Eudora, go to Junk Mail. Put a checkbox next to to turn SpamWatch on.

4. How does junk mail get scored?

Eudora uses two criteria to score junk mail.

Keywords: SpamWatch uses Bayesian filtering to look for certain words that are frequently found in junk mail.

Spam Headers: Many Internet Service Providers and Network Administrators use their own server-side scoring system to rate the probability of junk mail. If your ISP or Network uses a system (such as x-perl-mx, x-message-fire, x-spam-flash), it will add scores into the headers of your incoming email.

NOTE: If you're using Spamwatch with IMAP, your IMAP server must support UIDplus.

5. Can I change/customize the SpamWatch filters and dictionary?

There is no way to directly edit the SpamWatch dictionaries. However, you can improve SpamWatch performance (see How do I improve SpamWatch results?).

6. I have free Sponsored mode Eudora. Can I get SpamWatch?

You need to purchase Paid mode in order to get SpamWatch. After you have done so, if you would like to continue seeing ads you may go to Help: Payment and Registration: Sponsored mode. Your ads will return and SpamWatch will remain.

7. Where can I learn more about SpamWatch?

More SpamWatch instructions are available in the Eudora User's manual.
