Esoteric.epi / Esoteric Settings (Windows)

Document ID: 2241HQ

ISSUE:

What is the Esoteric.epi or Esoteric Settings (Windows)? What do they do? How do I use them?

SOLUTION:

Esoteric.epi - or Esoteric Settings is a plug-in that provides additional settings options in Eudora. These settings options will allow you to change various underlying bits of Eudora.

WARNING: Do not install this plug-in if you are not experienced in using Windows Eudora and the Internet.

To install Esoteric Settings, exit Eudora and go into the Eudora directory. Open the sub directory extrastuff. Move the file Esoteric.epi out of this directory and move it into the Eudora directory. Start up Eudora, then go to TOOLS: OPTIONS:. You will see these additional settings screens.

Logging:

Allows the user to set various logging levels. These correspond to the various LogLevel settings that can be used under the [Debug] section of eudora.ini.

Task/Error Windows:

The upper portion of this dialog controls various display options for the Task Status and Error Status windows. The lower allows the user to set different colors for the progress bar. It uses RGB values to set the colors.

Sending Mail+

Two check boxes:

  • When checked, allows user to edit From: and Attachments: headers manually

  • When checked, Eudora will list all EMS API plug ins (such as PGP) under a single icon instead of creating an icon for each plug-in

RAS Prefs:

Two check boxes:

  • When checked, Eudora will use a single connection for all personalities -- useful when separate dial ups are required for different ISPs

  • When checked, Eudora will close the dial up connection on exit

Threading:

Single check box -- when checked, Eudora will ignore the idle time wait as set under Background Tasks when mail is checked manually. The second setting controls the maximum number of tasks that can be run at the same time. If the number of tasks (send or check mail) exceeds this number, Eudora will wait for one task to complete before starting the next task.

Ports:

Allows the user to change the port numbers for the listed services. Default ports are listed in parentheses.
