Invalid host/Internet domain name detected (2000, XP, 2003) Document ID: 2041HQIt is possible to run WorldMail on Windows 2000, XP and Windows 2003 platforms, however there are a few problems with doing so. The problems known so far are listed below, with the known work around. 1. Clicking on the "Manage" menu item always locks up the WorldMail Management Center, either on Windows 2000 or Windows 2000 Server. Fortunately, all of the functionality of this menu can be obtained by right-clicking on the expanding list view. Annoying, but possible to work around. In any case, locking the management center does not stop the SMTP/POP/IMAP services. 2. The larger problem is that WorldMail will not be able to send outgoing mail because under Win2k it can't find your DNS entries because they have moved in the system registry. You can get the server up and running and receive messages, but you can't send anything outside of your local domain. The work around is to manually place your DNS server settings into the windows registry in the old WinNT 4.0 locations. The registry keys are: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\ Then add a new STRING value and call it Nameserver and the value would be the IP addresses of your name servers separated by a single space. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\ Then add a new STRING value and call it Domain and the value would be your domain name. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\ Then add a new STRING value and call it Hostname and the value would be the hostname. Be sure to back up your registry first. If you are not comfortable with editing your NT registry, or do not know how to back up your registry, do not make these changes. Also it's a good idea to copy the registry values down from the NT 4.0 machine before upgrading. Also note that many other WinNT mail servers look in the same places for DNS settings, so others may break in a similar fashion. KEYWORDS, ALLCARDS,WM,WIN2K,STUCK,QUEUE,OUTBOUND,MESSAGES,XP,2003
