Dialing Errors with Macintosh OS 9

Document ID: 1942HQ

ISSUE:

When Eudora tries to establish a connection with my ISP, it returns a "Domain Name System" error. If the connection is made outside of Eudora, then checking mail works normally. I'm using OS 9.

SOLUTION:

Firstly, make sure you're using the current version of Eudora. If you're not, download the latest updater from http://www.eudora.com/email/upgrade/.

If you're using the most current version of Eudora and the problem continues, try this-

  • Quit Eudora and go into your Eudora Application Folder. Open the folder "Extra Plugins" and move the file "ESOTERIC SETTINGS" from this folder into the "Eudora Stuff" folder.

  • Restart Eudora.

  • Go to Special: Settings: Open Transport.

  • Check the "Ignore MacSLIP and OT/PPP" setting.

Next time you send or check mail, Eudora will behave the same as any other app, and allow the operating system to dial the phone. The error messages should not appear.
