Creating a "catch-all" domain

Document ID: 1882HQ

        To create

a mailbox in WorldMail that will accept any messages sent to that domain

and place them into a single mailbox, here is what we need to do:

  • Open the WorldMail Management Center

  • Add the domain that you wish to set up the catch-all mailbox in

  • Now add a message store user to that domain by right clicking the

domain and selecting Add>Message Store user

The next step is to open the Registry Editor

  • Click Start>Run

  • Type regedit and click OK

  • Go to

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ISOCOR\SERVICES\SMTP\LocalDomains\yourdomain.com\Attributes

  • Add a new String value called SingleMailBox by clicking

    Edit>New>String value

  • Name the new key SingleMailBox and click OK

  • Now double click SingleMailBox

  • In the Value Data field type the full path to the user's mailbox that

    you created above -- i.e.

c:\Program Files\WorldMail\SMTP\Mailboxs\joe.user@yourdomain.com

Now click OK

        From

this point on, any email sent to that domain will be placed into the

mailbox specified and can be retrieved by using the username and password

that was created within that domain.

Important note: "This process is unreliable and does

not always work and therefore is not recommended for general use. Most

SMTP envelope information is lost in this type of delivery and makes it

impossible for such a user-provided delivery agent to operate correctly

under all conditions. The only envelope information available is the

Originator (in the Return-Path: header) and the envelope recipient (in

the Delivered-To: header extension). The SMTP server will treat delivery

using this mechanism as Final Delivery, thereby reducing the value of

Delivery Status Notifications and general robustness of the mail system

(as the sender can not really know if mail was delivered or

not)."
