Unexpected Error on Launch (Mac)

Document ID: 1877HQ

Issue:

Eudora crashes immediately upon launch with a message that "An unexpected error occurred".

Solution:

This error is most likely due to Eudora's interaction with 'URL Access'. This extension is part of the Macintosh OS. Eudora uses URL Access to facilitate the download of HTML images. Without it, Eudora is capable of downloading the images directly, and in some cases, URL Access must be disabled in order to avoid 'unexpected errors' on launching the program. Please try the following:

1. Open the 'Extensions Manager' control panel.

2. Uncheck the box adjacent to 'URL Access' in the list of extensions, then click on the 'Restart' button in the lower left corner of the Extensions Manager window.

3. You should find that you now have no trouble launching Eudora. Create a new message and copy and paste the following text into the body:

<x-eudora-setting:298=y>

The text you paste will show up in blue as a clickable link. Click on the link, then click the 'Set Setting' button. This setting will disable URL Access with respect to Eudora, leaving it available for general system use.

5. Re-enable the URL Access extension and restart your machine.
