11001 Host not found (Windows)

Document ID: 1745HQ

Issue:

I get the error message, "Host Not Found (11001)" when I try to check or send mail in Eudora (Windows).

Solution:

The most common cause of this error message is if one of your settings is incorrect. Go to Tools: Options: Getting Started. Verify your settings, especially-

login name

Mail Server (Incoming)

SMTP Server (Outgoing)

Also, your settings should probably have the host and domain names spelled out, not the IP addresses (numbers). If you have any doubts about what your POP account and SMTP server are, your Internet Service Provider or system administrator can tell you that information.

If that's not it, try checking these things-

Go to My Computer: Dial-Up Networking. Double click on your dialer and establish a connection to your Internet Service Provider first. Once you're sure you're connected, launch Eudora and try checking for or sending mail. If it works that way, then in Eudora go to Tools: Options: Internet Dialup and set your settings here to dial the correct dialer.

Check and make absolutely certain that your TCP/IP settings are correct. Go to Start: Settings: Control Panels: Network. Contact your Internet Service Provider or Network Administrator and have them double check that your Network settings are correct.

Are you using a third-party dialer and not the Windows Dial-Up Networking? If so, make certain you're using a 32 bit dialer. If you use an older 16-bit dialer, the 32-bit version of Eudora won't be able to communicate with it, Contact your Internet Service Provider and have them help you establish a Dial-Up Networking dialer.
