Users can not log into their accounts -- POP3 referral error

Document ID: 1588HQ

Problem: Users can not log in to retrieve mail -- POP3 referral error returned by clients

Solution:

The reason for the POP3 referral error is the host name and/or domain in TCP/IP properties has been changed and the server was rebooted.

To repair this, you need to export the users, replace the old server name with the new one, then re-import the users.

Exporting

The procedure for exporting the server configuration into a text file is as follows:

  1. Go to the command prompt

  2. Change to Program Files\Worldmail\SMTP

  3. Type "nibl -v -e -p Domain -f filename.ext"

NOTE: The -p Domain option will export all local domains. If you have more than one local domain configured, and wish to only export selected domains, you will need to use "-p Domain=domain.name" and be sure to specify a new file name after the "-f filename.ext" option for that domain.

  4. Enter the read password when prompted to do so. The user configuration will be exported to the filename you specify, e.g. "nibl -v -e -p Domain -f test.txt"

Next, make a backup copy of the Program Files\Worldmail\mailboxs directory.

NOTE: If you have WorldMail installed elsewhere, or nibl.exe is not in the Program Files\Worldmail\mailboxs directory, you can find it quickly by using Start:Find:Files or Folders and switch to the target directory.

The fix

Next, perform a search and replace on the exported file, replacing the old server name with the new one before re-importing.

Importing

To import users use the following command line:

"nibl -v -i -f filename.ext"

NOTE: You may also use the following to test the file for errors without importing:

"nibl -v -itest -f filename.ext"

We strongly recommend testing to make sure that everything exported OK.

NOTE: If you end up with 0 byte file, then the export did not complete successfully.
