pencil icon is greyed out not allowing message editing

Eudora 4.x

This occurs if you have Internet Explorer 3.x installed on your system and you have selected in Eudora to use the Microsoft viewer. Go under the Tools menu in Eudora to Options, select the viewing mail category. Uncheck "Use Microsoft's viewer". Click OK to save your changes and reopen the message. You can also upgrade Internet Explorer to version 4.x which will give you the ability to edit a message using the pencil in Eudora.
