Moving to a new server

Document ID: 1420HQ

The procedure for export of users is as follows:

1. Go to the command prompt.

2. Change to Program Files\Worldmail\SMTP

3. Type "nibl -e -p Domain -f <filename.txt>"

Note: the -p Domain option will export all local domains. If you have more than one local domain configured, you will need to use -p Domain=<domain.name> and be sure to specify a new file name after the "-f <filename.exe>" option for that domain.

4. Enter the read password when prompted to do so. The user configuration will be exported to the filename you specify. An example command line would be:

nibl -e -p Domain -f test.txt

Then make a backup copy of the Program Files\Worldmail\mailboxes directory.

Note: if you have WorldMail installed elsewhere, or nibl.exe is not in that directory, you can find it quickly by using Start:Find:Files or Folders. then switch to that directory.

Note #2: If you omit the -p Domain switch from the command line, nibl.exe will back up your entire server configuration, not just the domain info. This is useful if you have specialized settings for routing to certain domains (under custom domains), but is not normally needed.

Note #3: If you end up with a zero byte file when you export, the export did not complete successfully. Ensure that the password that you used is the correct Management Center password for your server. If you are still unable to export, try resetting the Manager passwords by following the instructions in document # 889HQ

To import users use the following command line:

nibl -i  -f <filename.txt>

If you move WorldMail onto a machine which has a different name (in the Network Control Panel, go to Protocols:TCP/IP properties, then DNS), you will need to perform a search and replace on this file, replacing the old server name with the new one, before importing it into the new server. For example, you will see the following line in several locations within the export file:

Server=old.server.name

Just replace all occurrences of old.server.name with the name of the new server and then import the file.
