Can't Download Attachments / PC (Older versions)

Document ID: 1313HQ

ISSUE:

I have trouble downloading large attachments on my Windows for Eudora (version 2.x or 3.x).

SOLUTION:

Try the following:

Step down your modem speed, and set Flow Control to Hardware. These settings will be in whatever winsock or dialer you use. If you have a 28.8 modem, the maximum speed is 57,600 bps; if you have a 14.4 modem, the maximum speed is 19,200 bps. You might try stepping the baud rate down to lower values.

If you're using Eudora 2.2, go to Tools:Options:Advanced Networking and turn both Asynchronous Winsock Calls settings off.

Also, if you're using Trumpet winsock for your connection, make sure you're using the latest version (2.1F). If you need to contact Trumpet for an update, they're at www.trumpet.com.au. When you've got version 2.1F, check your settings in the winsock and make sure they are the following:

MSS MTU RWIN

For a PPP account: 536 576 2144

For a SLIP account: 1460 1500 5844

Try lowering the Network Buffer Size (in Tools:Options:Advanced Network or Special:Settings:Advanced Network) to 2048 or even 1024. Also, try raising the Network Timeout setting to 360.

If you're using Windows 95, try this: quit Eudora, open the eudora.ini file in the Eudora directory, and add this line to the Settings section of the file: NetworkOpenTimeout=120 Then save changes to the file and restart Eudora.

If your server is busy, that can cause this problem. Try to download at quiet times (at night, for example, when fewer people are using the server).

If none of this helps, you may have noisy lines or a busy server (i.e., a "CPU-bound server.")

If you're on a token-ring Local Area Network, the router may be configured incorrectly.
