Error opening Settings File

Document ID: 1266HQ

Your "Eudora Settings" file may have become corrupted. This can happen if there's a crash during the process of checking or sending mail, or if you accidentally launch two copies of Eudora. It's not a serious problem, but you may have to re-enter your settings.

If you get an error opening the Settings File, do the following:

  1. Find the "Eudora Folder" - it will either be in your "System Folder" or your "Documents" folder.

  2. Find the file called "Eudora Settings.Bkup" in the Eudora Folder.

  3. Remove the current Eudora Settings file from the Eudora folder and rename the backup file "Eudora Settings."

  4. Try to launch Eudora again. If the problem is not resolved, you must throw away your current Eudora Settings file as well as the new backup file, as they are not repairable.

  5. Restart Eudora. A new Eudora Settings file is created for you. You need to reconfigure Eudora as described in the "Configuration" section of the user manual. If this problem persists, it may be indicative of problems with your Macintosh. Run a disk-checking program on it to be sure.
