"Server not responding. 706 Lost connection to the server". Document ID: 1229HQISSUE: I get the error message "Server not responding. 706 Lost connection to the server". SOLUTION: There are many potential causes of this error, but essentially the error means that Eudora tried to connect to your mail server and the server did not 'answer', or refused the connection. Verify the following: - You have an active Internet connection. Visit a web page, like www.eudora.com, or perform some other action that will verify your machine can contact the Internet. - Verify that you have correctly entered the Mail server settings for both the incoming mail server and outgoing mail server. Verify the spelling is correct. If Eudora was able to contact the server in the past, the server info is probably correct. - For the more technically savvy, verify your machine can connect to the POP server on port 110 (or port 143 if using IMAP) and to the SMTP server on port 25. To do this under Mac OS X, open the Terminal application and then enter the following commands (replacing "mail.server.name" with the name of your mail server): To test your POP server type: telnet mail.server.name 110 To test your SMTP server type: telnet mail.server.name 25 To test your IMAP server (if you have one - most ISP's do not) type: telnet mail.server.name 143 KEYWORDS: EPMAC, 760
