Q: I just bought
Eudora. Do I have to see ads if I move to version 4.3?
A: No. Eudora
4.3 in Paid mode, without ads, is a free upgrade for current Eudora
Pro 4.x users. Just use the 4.x
to 4.3 updater instead of downloading the full Eudora 4.3.

Q: Why did QUALCOMM
decide to put ads in Eudora?
A: Because many
people have shown over and over again that they prefer free things
with ads to coughing up their cash (there's this thing called "TV"
-- surprisingly enough, it's pretty popular). We think thats
reasonable, but we still need to make money. This looks like a win-win
to us and the vast majority of comments back from our users agree.

Q: What's up
with these "modes?"
A: The three-modes
approach allows us to give users additional choice, while maintaining
the two forms of the product previously available. The difference
is that, instead of doing multiple products, now Eudora is one product
with three user-selectable modes. Heres a description of the
modes:
- Sponsored
mode:This mode provides the full-featured Eudora desktop email
program at no charge, and includes free technical support (up
to six calls per year). The software displays a series of static
onscreen advertisements that do not interfere with the users
email workspace. The advertising does not appear within the body
of email messages. The free download of Eudora installs in Sponsored
mode.
- Paid mode:When
this mode is selected, Eudora guides the customer through the
payment process, then provides a registration code which can be
used to activate the full-featured version of the software without
advertising. The Paid mode of Eudora 4.3 is a free upgrade for
Eudora Pro 4.x customers.
- Light
mode: The free download of Eudora 4.3 automatically installs
in Sponsored mode, but users have the choice of switching to Light
mode if they prefer. Light mode is an upgrade for existing Eudora
Light users, and does not contain advertising, but includes fewer
features and email management tools than Sponsored and Paid modes.

Q: Can I
turn the ads off?
A: Yes. The
Eudora 4.3 download installs in Sponsored mode (has ads), but you
may go to Payment & Registration in the Help menu and switch
to Paid mode for $39.95. This is the full Eudora 4.3 without ads.
Or you can switch to free Light mode which does
not contain advertising, but includes fewer features and email management
tools than Sponsored and Paid modes.

Q: How do I
purchase Eudora?
A: After youve
downloaded Eudora 4.3, select Payment & Registration in the
Help menu. Click on the Paid mode button and you will be guided
through a purchase process. Paid mode users do not see ads. QUALCOMM
also continues to sell Eudora through major national computer retailers,
as well as direct at www.eudora.com and through electronic retailers.

Q: But wont
these ads slow my connection down?
A: No. Eudora
will take a little longer than normal to launch the first time you
power it up after installation. The first mail check will take a
little longer than usual. But the ads are cached on your hard drive
and subsequently Eudora only gets a few ads once a day on a mail
check. The ads are small and the extra time this single check takes
is just a few seconds. How much longer does it take you to download
15 messages than 12? Depends, right? And that difference is so small,
you dont even think about it. The ad download is like that.

Q: There is
no such thing as a free lunch. How much information do I have to
give you?
A: If you want
to use our full-featured email client, without paying us anything,
all we need is your email address. Thats it. It may not be
a free lunch, but it is sort of an Internet Happy Hour. You will
notice that we want you to fill out a survey. You dont have
to, but wed sure appreciate it. This enables us to serve ads
into Eudora that more closely match your interests and advertisers
pay more to communicate with desirable people like you. Read our
Privacy Statement for reassurance
about what well do with the information.
Q: Why do you
even need my email address?
A: We use it
to initialize the application, then we forget it (unless you tell
us we can remember it to tell you whats new and make special
offers).

Q: Are you going
to sell my email address so I get spammed?
A: No, no, no,
no, never. We wont. We dont want to. We couldnt
look ourselves in the mirror if we did. Anyhow, Eudora's advanced
filtering capabilities make its users less attractive to spammers.

Q: Will advertisers
know what kind of email I get?
A: That would
be kinda scary. Advertisers CANNOT get this information from us
-- we dont have it and we dont want it. Your email is
stored on your own private desktop and in no way whatsoever does
our ad system look at your email folders.

Q: What about
privacy?
A: We've put
considerable effort into protecting our users privacy. We
built our ad serving system ourselves and it does not interface
with any of the Internet profiling companies databases. Any
demographical information you choose to give us will be used for
the sole purpose of delivering advertisments in Eudora that might
be of interest to you. Heres our Privacy
Statement.

Q: Why continue
to offer Light if youre making the full-featured product free?
A: We value
our heritage as an Internet pioneer and Eudora is very much about
choice. Some users may want a free email program without advertising.
Light mode has fewer features, but that may be fine for their needs.
Given what happens with most people the longer they use email, Light
mode users might want to upgrade to a full-featured email program
as their needs change.

Q: What if I
need technical support?
A: Well then
youll definitely want Eudora in Sponsored mode. This is sweet.
Sponsored mode users get 6 free calls a year, year after year after
year. Technical support is available
24 hours a day on our website too.
