* This 6.0.2 release Primarily addresses 4 Panther-related problems in Eudora: 1) Attach Dialog "Attach" button not enabled 2) Network reachability check causing long delays (spinning cursor) 3) Crash sending mail if using MX Records 4) Failure to add SSL certificate to Keychain if Keychain does not already contain a certificate. 1) When you attach a file using the attach dialog (versus dragging the attachment onto the message), the "Attach" button in the dialog is not enabled. Due to a change in the standard file dialogs under Panther, Eudora's method of enabling the button no longer works. You can still double click the attachment in the dialog to attach a document. We have changed our dialog code to work around this problem. 2) By default, Eudora asks the OS every minute if there is a network connection. Eudora uses a standard OS call that Apple indicates we should use. The problem is that under certain circumstances, Panther takes an inordinate amount of time to respond to this call, while Eudora is forced to wait. We have turned this check off by default, except for users who have explicitly turned this setting off and back on. Please see this Answer Card (http://www.eudora.com/techsupport/kb/2487hq.html) for more information. When Apple has fixed the problem, we will investigate changing the defaults back to our original behavior. 3) Panther introduced a bug that causes a crash when Eudora attempts to use MX records when sending mail. We have worked around this problem by disabling the use of MX records under Panther. When Apple fixes the problem, we will investigate turning this option back on under OS versions that do not have the problem. 4) Eudora has long used the Apple Keychain to store SSL certificates. Under Panther, if the Keychain does not contain any certificates, Eudora is unable to add a certificate. Unfortunately, the Apple Keychain does not return an error to us, so we do not know that the certificate failed to be added. Next time you check mail, Eudora will again attempt to add the certificate and fail. Once a certificate exists in the Keychain, Eudora is usually able (there are a few exceptions) to add certificates to the Keychain, and thus successfully negotiate SSL connections. We have worked around this problem by performing our own check to detect a failure to add a certificate, instead of relying on the OS to report the error. If adding the certificate fails, we revert to an older method of adding the certificate to the Keychain that requires some user interaction, but should work. Please see this Technical Support Answer Card (http://www.eudora.com/techsupport/kb/2492hq.html) for more information. * When Apple fixes the Keychain we should be able to once again add certificates without user interaction, and should be able to report errors to the user. * Added additional logging during DNS lookups and connection attempts. * Performance improvement in HTML rendering. * Fixed silent failure to connect to SSL-enabled hosts on some systems. * 601 Changes * Disabled MX records under Panther, as Panther crashes * Fixed selection after manual filter that does not open a new message * Modified prefs panels to look better under Panther * Streamlined paying for Eudora from an ad or web page * Fixed occasional failure to read IC settings correctly * Set ourselves to the default mail handler at startup if the user tells us so. * Horizontal rules in messages or previewed threads now print under OSX * Updated version numbers on SpamWatch & SpamHeaders plugins * Fixes to get proper copying of mac roman characters received as UTF-8 * Backed out over-agressive encoded-word unwrapping * Fixed multiple printing of multiple concentrated messages * Tweaked display of return receipt request * IMAP - select last message after manual filter is applied. * Added x-eudora-setting:377 for sites doing DNS load-balancing and Kerberos * Resolved problem sorting special characters received with earlier versions * Panther-compatible ESP * IMAP - score IMAP messages even if the preference to store junk messages in the Junk mailbox is turned off. * Fixed selection of color in prefs to not step on Red values under Jaguar * When copying search result message summaries, include mailbox name * Removed all traces of "offensive" material * Find now works in help windows * Fixes for searching for international characters * Fixed sporadic crash searching in messages with international characters or html * IMAP - fixed crash cancelling message decoding. * Tweaked behavior of open new windows behind current mailbox if current mailbox is invisible * Address book list updates if viewed by name and name changes * Fixed one source of address malformed errors on incoming mail * Fixes for proper unfolding of headers with encoded words * Fixed disappearance of settings icons if app hidden with settings dialog up * Added Report a Bug and Make a Suggestion items to Help menu * Support for long filenames * IMAP - display single Update Filter dialog when moving multiple IMAP mailboxes. * IMAP - fixed bug that caused trashed messages to be remarked as unread. * Fixed a problem resyncing selected mailboxes when an IMAP account folder is selected.
